Flexible Content Structure
Neptune uses a hierarchical organizational system to provide maximum flexibility of content development and usage.
  • The most basic building block is a content element, which could be a few words and phrases, or multiple paragraphs of text and images.
  • Content elements are assigned to panes, which are areas of a page such as a column. Pages may consist of a single pane or multiple panes depending on the page layout chosen.
  • Pages are assigned to nodes, which are specific locations in the site tree that determine the relationships between pages in the navigation.
  • Neptune can create nodes up to four layers deep and can create infinitely many nodes at each layer, making your site’s size virtually unlimited.
Each of these units - content elements, panes, pages and nodes - operates independently, giving you tremendous power over the use and structure of your content throughout the site.

User-Friendly and Flexible Content Editing
Neptune’s content editing tools allow you to easily swap between HTML and WYSIWIG modes with the click of a button. Use the mode that is most comfortable for you, or that better suits the kind of content you’re creating. You can also easily change between modes as you work.

Unlimited Potential for Content Scheduling
Neptune allows you to schedule pages into and out of nodes, so that you can remove outdated content automatically, and stage content so it is added to your site as soon as it is relevant. This makes it easy for you to plan when your announcements, events, press releases, and other information will appear on your site.

Strong Permissions Tools and Access Tools
Neptune’s permissions editor lets you define areas of the site as password-protected, and helps you create individual and group logins to access those areas.

Neptune also gives you powerful controls over administrative access to the Control Panel itself, so that each administrator (or editor) has exactly the level of access they need to do their work, but no more. You can:
  • define who edits which sections of the site
  • review content before it is published
  • monitor Control Panel activity by tool or by user

Complete Control over Design and Flexible Design Tools
Neptune is completely CSS-driven, and an integrated stylesheet editor gives you and your designer (or design team) complete control over the look and style of your site. A layout editor makes it easy to create page layouts with multiple columns and rows as needed to fit your content. You can assign the same layout to all the pages of your site for consistency, yet retain the power to create pages with unique layouts as appropriate.

Neptune allows your site to use pretty much any character set that exists, as Neptune sites run on a dedicated PostgreSQL database.
